ASD Services

Holdsambeck and Associates, Inc. have been providing applied behavioral services to consumers with developmental disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, since 1977. In the past several years, those services have been expanded to include specialty services on an intensive basis specifically designed for children with autism and related disorders. These services are most appropriate for younger children and often involve a team of tutors who are responsible for helping to implement the programs. These intensive programs are currently available in Ventura and Fresno Counties. In addition, we now have a new service code called ABA intensive which is available in SLO, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. ABA intensive services are appropriate for many consumers who have intensive needs but may not need tutor driven services. This service code allows for up to 10 hours per week of individualized service where it is clinically necessary. Consumers wanting more information on these programs should contact our main office directly or speak to their regional center service coordinator.

In general, most research has validated that the science of ABA is the most promising in providing treatment options for this population. Our programs make use of intensive ABA techniques to develop repertoires of behavior that allow the children to have the maximum levels of inclusion in the schools and in their communities. We typically receive referrals and are currently vendored by TCRC and by CVRC to provide intensive ABA services. These services require a great deal of parental support and involvement but can also produce dramatic changes in behavior. These services are most effective for children ages 2 1/2 to 5.

Our interventions begin with a careful functional analysis. Baseline data is taken on a broad assortment of skill deficits and excesses. These assessments target the major areas of concern for most children on the spectrum (communication, joint attention, cooperation, play skills, tantrums, etc.). Treatment plans are then drawn up and submitted to the funding agency for approval. Once treatment is approved, setting up the total hours per week of treatment and the review periods for the authorization, then a team is put in place to conduct sessions in the care giver's home. Actual hours recommended will be based upon the child's need.  Actual hours delivered cannot be guaranteed but every attempt is made to fulfil the recommendations.

Our goal is to develop repertoires of behavior through fun and meaningful sessions that allow children the opportunity to make greater gains both at school and in the community. Often this involves using techniques such as discrete trial training, play and joint attention games, as well as motivational techniques inherent in PRT types of interventions. The science of ABA is central to what we do and how we do it. Learning needs to be proactive, positive and individualized. Careful data analysis and reviews are a part of every treatment we design. Careful attention to issues of generalization and the gradual transfer of supports to the family is also a goal of all our programs.
